These terms cover commissioned and custom work. Shipping, returns and the lifetime trade-up are set out separately in the Shipping Policy and the Refund & Return Policy.
What a commission costs
Custom projects begin at $2,500. Beyond that, the quote depends on the stone, the metal, the complexity of the setting and the bench time involved, and you receive it in writing before anything is committed.
Payment schedule
$500 to begin. This opens the project and covers our design conversations and the CAD work. It is not refundable. If you booked a consultation, that $25 is credited against it.
50% of the quoted cost at design approval. Due when you approve the render and before any wax, printing or casting begins — the point at which the piece stops being a drawing and starts costing money to make.
The balance before delivery. Payable on completion, before the finished piece ships.
What design approval means
Design approval is your formal written acceptance of a CAD render I have provided. Email, text or message all count, as long as it is in writing and unambiguous.
It is the pivot point of the whole project. Before it, you can walk away. After it, the piece is being made for you specifically and cannot be returned or refunded.
Revisions
Two rounds of revision are included. Further revisions are $200 each and are added to the quoted total.
If you decide not to go ahead
A commission can be cancelled at any point before design approval or before I have procured a stone for it, whichever happens first. The $500 is retained and nothing further is owed.
Where a project is declined or abandoned, CAD work already produced is accounted for at $150 per render, drawn from the $500 you have already paid.
Rush work
A rush commission carries a surcharge of 20% of the quoted total. Rush is not always possible: the bench and the stone decide, not the calendar.
Your own stones
If you send me a stone or a piece of your own, KK Diamonds is liable for it the entire time it is in my possession. Liability passes back to you at signed delivery confirmation.
Before any work begins on an heirloom I will tell you honestly whether it should be restored, conserved as it is, or reset. Some pieces should not be touched.
Sizing
The first resize of a commissioned piece is included, whenever you need it.
